“Now That Your Dollar Bills Have Sprouted Wings” by Max Miller & Rachael Roth
First: the music—Max returns with his first fuller recording in quite awhile, a cool duet on “Dollar Bills.” The song begins much how I keep saying I imagine the song (finally!) but then it picks up into a sort of feedbacky blues duet.
Second: the video—seriously! Watch that! How in the world is that happening?! Our friend Ham made it, she runs the best Beck website around (though it is in Japanese). She is a fun and creative artist. She made the video for “Timebomb” (which I consider official), as well as our little whiskeyclone paper doll experiment. :)
Good job guys, great pairing!

“I’m Down” by Beck
So Beck has said in a few interviews that he might consider playing some of Song Reader live, especially now the book has come out and there are other versions out there too. At this point, Beck has only played one show though—a benefit gig a few weeks back in Los Angeles.
Beck was performing as a trio, with Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Roger Joseph Manning Jr. They played a very country-fied take on “I’m Down,” clearly unrehearsed and improvised (Beck forgets the words) but this is how Beck hears the song. Fun to compare how it goes with how everyone else hears it!

Me, Alecia, Beck, Jakob, and Dr. Patt putting the “Car” in Caroling. I don’t know what that means, but we killed it.

“There’s A Sarcophagus In Egypt With Your Name On It” by Illy Mob
Illy Mob also did “Sarcophagus” here; while most versions of this have been (I think) fairly faithful to the sheet music, this one finds a nice sweet spot in its foggy atmosphere.

“Please Leave A Light On When You Go” by Dave Malloy & Brittain Ashford
Geez, this song is beautiful. And made even more so by Dave & Brittain here. (And lovely video too!)
